Motions, In Motion and Emotions: Abortion and The Loss of a Child.

Ever since M312 was defeated the topic of abortion and the debate as to when a being acquires the right to life is everywhere.  So while we can lament the fact that our government won’t even talk about it, we can be glad that the topic is “hot” right now and being discussed at dinner tables, college campuses and coffee shops around the country.  I found this quote from John Calvin:

For the fetus, though enclosed in the womb of its mother, is already a human being, and it is a monstrous crime to rob it of the life which it has not yet begun to enjoy. If it seems more horrible to kill a man in his own house than in a field, because a man’s house is his place of most secure refuge, it ought surely to be deemed more atrocious to destroy a fetus in the womb before it has come to light.” ~ John Calvin

This Reformer, 500 years ago, knew that the pre-born fetus is a human being – something that Science has proven.  I find it sad that our Canadian politicians refuse to even talk about it.  It has something to do with women’s rights to choose.  But since  science has proven that the fetus is a human being…does it not have human rights? In my mind… a women’s right to choose does not trump a human’s right to life.

Now there is Motion 408 which is on the table. This motion is aimed at ending the disturbing trend of sex-selection abortions in Canada.  If you wish to email your MP go HERE and follow the directions, it takes but a few minutes. Thank you to for the link!

In Motion

This past Saturday morning I joined with a number of other pro-lifers in Chilliwack and walked the 5km route to raise funds.  My 6 year old daughter tagged along and made it the whole way without complaining.  She does not quite get why we did the walk, “It is for babies still inside of the mommy.” she said.  “and that’s a good thing…right?”   “Yes it is for the babies, but it is also for the mommies.” I said…  I think she cared more about the bouncy castle and the cookies.  I was pleased to see a number of people from my church in attendance, one of them even placed 3rd and won a bronze medal! Congrats Gord. Another one of my sisters I spoke with along the route, as we were the last 2 to arrive! I don’t think we have said more than “hi” until Saturday and I don’t think she knows that I have this blog (I don’t usually bring it up), and that makes me even happier that she came!  Because it was not me or this blog who persuaded her to come, it was her convictions in Jesus, in the value of the life of the child in the womb that persuaded her to walk pushing her two children in a stroller in 100% humidity in a jacket that could not have breathed at all!

Here is a  5 second video we sent to thank all 91 MP’s who voted in favour of M312. (My daughter thought we said “thank you for voting for everyone too!) 🙂

Abortion grieves me to the core. It grieves our Lord.  While the loss of 105,000 babies every year hurts, I also think of a couple in my congregation who lost their full term baby a year ago tomorrow.  Our heart aches as we lost a member of the body of Christ, our heart aches for the parents who will never know their child as more than a kick in mommy’s belly.  But our heart rejoices that this little child is a covenant member in Christ. So while I cannot claim to understand why God allows so many little ones to die, I do know that it is his will.  So all we can do is join with Job and praise the God who gives and takes away. Well, it is not all we can do…please pray and stand up against abortion by signing the petitions, mailing your MP or joining others in standing against abortion.

One day when Job’s sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother’s house, 14 a messenger came to Job and said, “The oxen were plowing and the donkeys were grazing nearby, 15 and the Sabeans attacked and made off with them. They put the servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!”

16 While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, “The fire of God fell from the heavens and burned up the sheep and the servants, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!”

17 While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, “The Chaldeans formed three raiding parties and swept down on your camels and made off with them. They put the servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!”

18 While he was still speaking, yet another messenger came and said, “Your sons and daughterswere feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother’s house, 19 when suddenly a mighty windswept in from the desert and struck the four corners of the house. It collapsed on them and they are dead, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!”

20 At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship 21 and said:

“Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
and naked I will depart.[c]
The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away;
may the name of the Lord be praised.”

22 In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing.

    A good word brother. I weep for our countries for God does not allow the mistreatment of the innocent to go unpunished. How much more their murders will He judge?
