Tasty Tidbits 1-11-13

Verse of the Day

If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. 20 Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also.

~John 15:18-20

Quote of the Day

A dog barks when his master is attacked. I would be a coward if I saw that God’s truth is attacked and yet would remain silent.

~ John Calvin

Pastor Louie Giglio Gets Dis-invited from the White House

Louie Giglio, pastor of Passion Church and founder of the Passion movement where men like Chris Tomlin and John Piper get together to spread the gospel message to college kids, was invited to pray at the White House.  He was then unceremonisouly dis-invited when it was discovered that he held a biblical view of homosexuality.  Lots of bloggers are going crazy with this story, even I was going to blog about it. However, when Al Mohler, president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, wieghs in, I graciously step aside and let a master speak.   Read his response Here

The Desiring God Blog also touches on this topic, claiming that there is a “new state church”.  Read it here.

What if Joel Osteen Wrote a Really Good Book?

Tim Challies discusses the challenge he faces of reviewing Christian books.   “One of the challenges of being a book reviewer, and especially a Christian book reviewer, is knowing what to do when a good guy writes a bad book or when a bad guy writes a good book. Of course the categories of “good guy” and “bad guy” are not very helpful since they are far too broad, but they can at least give us a starting point. Book reviewing is easy when D.A. Carson releases another exegetical masterpiece or when Benny Hinn releases another absolute trainwreck. But let’s imagine for a moment that Joel Osteen suddenly releases a book that is really, objectively good.”  Read it here
