Kids Say: You mean “PATRIARCHS.”
During family devotions I like to engage the kids – or at least the oldest – in the discussion. Reading Genesis 49 with my family, I asked Kaitlyn, who was in grade one at the time, “Kaitlyn, do you know the names of Jacob’s 12 sons?”
Kaitlyn: “You mean Patriarchs.”
Me: “Uh…yes…(looking uncertain at my wife) Do you know the names of the Patriarchs?”
Kaitlyn: ” Of course!” She smiles and proceeds to tell me, “Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob were the names of the first three. Jacob had twelve sons. And their names were these; Reuben, Simeon, Levi and Judah, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Issachar and Zebulun and Joseph and Benjamin. These were the patriarchs.”
Me: Wow. Where…how…when?
Kaitlyn: “Miss (her grade 1 teacher) taught me, it is a song from Jamie Soles.”
So goes the story of my daughter introducing me to Jamie Soles (and answering one of the hardest questions I could have asked a 6 year old).
Hear are some good ideas for boys names also…
